2020 KHS SUMMER FH

Hello KHS field hockey players and families,

We hope this letter finds you well and rested after an end of the year that no one could have predicted.  We deserve an incredible amount of praise for our adaptability and ability to come together under tense circumstances.  There is a great deal of uncertainty in this world so we would like to take a moment to explain our current situation in regards to our summer field hockey programming as well as provide you with what we know for the upcoming Fall season.

All coaches met with Mr. Schwartzman to receive the same information regarding summer programming.  We will share with you the rules we must follow based on the recommendations of the Maine CDC, MPA, and our RSU 21 district.  These rules are strict and need to be followed by all of us for the safety, well being, and integrity of our programming.  Coach D, Tricia, and I firmly believe in respecting the rules and regulations as they are provided to us.  Please know the rules may be different for others across the state and within other programs.

*There will be no in person training until the date of August 3rd. No coach can supervise any workout routine in person until the August 3rd date. Please do not run any practices on your own.  This is for your safety.  The weight room will be closed and access to the school will not be allowed.  The school track, courts, and field are open to the community for those wishing to follow the rules of social distancing.  This is for all of our protection.

*We will be communicating via email, our Remind team app (please email a coach to get connected), and Google Hangouts.  We will be setting a schedule once we finalize your summer packets.  Our world has gotten savvy with telecommunications and we will follow along!  If we cannot be face to face, we will get creative as to how to maintain a strong team bond.

*Your summer packet will look the same as in previous years but we are going to try to attach some videos for you to reference and replicate at home.  We found a few amazing videos that show players getting creative around their homes for training. We will email these to you.  If you would like a paper copy, I can mail one to you or we can arrange for them to be available in a spot at the high school for you to pick up.  It has never been more important for you to take charge of your fitness and your individual skill set.  We will not have our 2 sessions a week for coaches to push you or motivate you to workout.  Coaches are always available to answer questions and assist you.

*When our August 3rd date arrives, we anticipate being able to hold in person sessions.  You ABSOLUTELY NEED to have your paperwork completed in a timely manner or you WILL NOT be able to attend any sessions.  You will also be going through a screening prior to any practice session.  This could include but is not limited to temperature checks and a questionnaire.  This will be completed by the trainers and administrators so all information will be kept confidential.  The current MPA guidelines recommend that we will begin our conditioning in small groups of no more than 10.  We are not certain how this will look and more information should be forthcoming  later into July.  There could be many changes and alternate plans from now until then so please make sure to check your email, remind messages, or the KHS athletic website for updates.

*WE’VE GOT THIS.  Hardships prepare ordinary people for an extraordinary destiny. Change is hard but we are going to get through this all together.  The one thing we CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH IS TO FOLLOW THE RULES. We know that many of you are eager to be active and possibly attend camps or play for travel teams. We cannot tell you what to do, but we would like to encourage you to think about the potential risk and challenges this may present in the coming months.  If we should face a confirmed case, our season will be significantly impacted but most importantly, we want you healthy.  We adore you ladies and our team greatly. Your health and well being will always come first.  We know you will have questions.  Please reach out to us.  We will do our best to answer questions or direct you to someone who can.  We miss you and are going to continue to spread positivity.  Think happy field hockey thoughts...timed miles (hahaha).

We will be in touch! Please be on the lookout for your summer packet.

Sincerely

Coach K, Coach D, and Tricia.
